Minicom is indicating a much deeper problem ... almost looks like send/receive formats are not matching ... nothing "legible" comes back! When I get time I'll post info from minicom - but I've got other things to right at the moment.

Hi Michael, You might try some of the ppp options from this linux.net.nz mailing list email: http://www.linux.net.nz/pipermail/nzlug/2009-October/018205.html There is also two or three more mailing list threads about this that can be found with a google search of 'linux slingshot dialup', one of which mentions that if minicom prints back garbage when trying to create the connection that ppp is involved: http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-users(a)it.canterbury.ac.nz/msg27849.html Looks like slingshots dialup has been a common issue on linux. hth, Dean
