Do it, Linux Mint loves you and your family pet.
Although, I've moved into Linux Mint Debian Edition... I got tired of the format+upgrade process - LMDE offers a much nicer rolling update similar to Ubuntu.
Maybe this is not such a big issue with Mint 17 (supported till 2019). Apparently, they'll keep the 14.04 LTS as base for the releases in the next few years, till the next LTS comes round.
