Seems like this is the second time IBM has used the Apache Software Foundation as a pawn in its games. The first time was over Java: it was helping to pressure Sun to open-source the TCK (official Java validation suite) so Apache could use it to validate its Harmony project--up until Oracle took over Sun and offered a special deal, at which point IBM simply abandoned its support of the project. Now we hear that IBM has pulled its support from OpenOffice, which it had been using to help keep afloat its own legacy Lotus Symphony product. Now that that is history, OpenOffice isn’t needed any more.
