
Never seen the wiki before? Go have a look at http://www.wlug.org.nz/. There are a lot of people on this list who don't appear to use the wiki - or at least don't appear to add to it. Does everyone read it? Here are some hints from your friendly wiki gnome.
I propose we have another week of trying to put information into the Wiki. For those of you that haven't tried to contribute, goto http://www.wlug.org.nz/ and find a page, and click the "Edit" button at the bottom. It'll ask you for your name, you can put anything there, just take your first and last names, capitalise them and mush them together, thus "Perry Lorier" -> "PerryLorier". Then edit the page.

This would be a really good place to start. Every now and then someone writes half a page and finishes with "AddToMe" - a reminder to them to come back later perhaps, or that someone who knows some more should finish it. On the HelpingOut page you will see a list of pages that are marked as needing something adding.

My contribution is going to be cleaning up the WantedWikis. Remember that this is a Linux wiki, and while there is a certain amount of off topicness in it, don't feel you need to MakeEverything into a WikiWord. By all means create a page about the CommodoreAmiga, but don't feel you need to define FatAgnes and ExternalRamUnit and so on - you will get better results (more people reading your page, if you see it that way) if you put them all on the CommodoreAmiga page. With this in mind, if you see someone has created ForrestGump as a wiki word, instead of creating a node for ForrestGump (assuming there is no relevance to it), maybe it might be a good idea to edit the page that links to it and remove the word? Personally I see the ultimate goal of the wiki to have no wikiwords left to define until someone adds a new page, and that is much easier if people only define relevant words.
Perhaps also try reviews of software you've used, or questions you want answers to. If everyone adds one page a day for 5 days, we will have a huge impact on the amount of extra information in the wiki when google decides to readd us to the index :)
There are a whole bunch of categories (see CategoryCategory) that make it easy to find things by grouping. When you create a page, decide if it's related to one of the broad topics and add ----- Part of CategoryWhatever at the bottom of the page. That way, when people want to learn about networking, they can go to CategoryNetworking, and see a list of all the pages that are 'in' that category (that link to it via the method just shown.) Remember, wiki-ing isn't a chore - it's actually quite fun - but with a couple of small things on your mind, you'll make life a lot easier for the people who have made it their mission to lurk in the underground, fix broken links, refactor pages etc :) Craig
