There's an OLPC employee here in Wellington - Martin Langhoff. If there's enough interest in the project you might wanna invite him up to 'tron LUG along with his crates of the of PCs. We had an olpc themed hackfest at super happy dev house, and there's plans afoot to make oplc group hacking a weekly event in wellington.
