I think she's also been hitting reset instead of shutting down to boot into wintendo .. I've suggested she do her writing in Abiword from now on, as well as only using reset when the machine won't respond to anything else, and hopefully that'll solve the issue. I was a bit nervous about the delay in actually committing data to the filesystem in ext4, so I opted to stay with ext3. As a result, I've never had a problem with OpenOffice/LibreOffice saving 0-byte files. I've still learned to make regular backups, though.
