[wlug] Proxy Authentication

We have just set up at school a Suse 9 Linux server. Apache 2, Squid 2.5. We are trying to get Proxy Authentication via Squid working and are having problems. We have created our ACL's, etc. We have a password file and have tried Pam and NCSA. The prompt appears asking for user and password but does not accept what we put in. I think it might not be talking to the password file. Any ideas on where and what we could check?
