What can we do to help, the cause. Maybe start a petition? Im sure I could get some support from student at the uni.
The best thing you can do to help is let people know what's going on; There's a massive worldwide push by the 'IP cartels' to push through laws like this, and agreements such as ACTA. It's not just NZ It's not going to 'only affect people who steal music or movies'. There's a very large compliance cost for ISP's, and the definition of ISP is very broad. It's going to cost everyone money to implement.Your money, not the record companies. There's also very few safeguards. No Judicial oversight, no penalty of false accusations. No incentive for the record companies to make sure of infringement before they go pointing the finger. And it was passed in a very 'undemocratic' manner. It went through select committee where some changes were suggested which would have made it much fairer all round (no guilt by accusation alone, and penalties for false accusations), but those changes were simply 'reverted' before it got passed into law. That's not how the system is supposed to work, and every New Zealander should be disgusted at the way this law was passed, even if they agree with the intent of it. -- This email is for the intended recipient only.
