Did you log in with your usename in all caps? If you do, it thinks your terminal can only display caps and converts everything to caps.
No, I type in my user name etc all in lower case. Everything works fine from ssh.. sorry, I for got the "'t" in can. Should have read "can't" I wondered if there were different console settings for actual tty's verses ssh consoles and thats why I can't see the issue. Michael
