Really interesting article here: http://software.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=06/05/16/1940214&from=rss
This talks about creating images using the free (as in beer) VMWare Player by basically hacking configuration files.
I suspect VMWare may close down this loophole so use it while it lasts...
NB I haven't tested this myself.
That is an excellent writeup. It took me most of a day to get my Ubuntu Dapper and Windows Vista virtual machines to work with bits of information from all over the Web. You can find some more VMware Player-related links on my directory site: http://directory.portal.net.nz/directory/2632-vmware By the way, if you want to run Windows Vista Beta 2, be sure to create a disk image of at least 16GB for the 32-bit version or 24GB for the 64-bit version or the installer will exit. Also, you can get VMware Tools for free by downloading the Linux version of VMware Server, extracting windows.iso from it, and using that as CD-ROM drive image. -- Matthias
