Mandrake has released a production OS with a prerelease kernel. The problem is for packet-writing added to the 2.4.22-rc2q5 kernel on Aug 15.
A flush command which happens while deciding whether a drive is a CD writer or not has been redefined by LG to mean "upload firmware" (with predictable results). Juan Quintela from the Mandrake Cooker list: "Yep, whoeved decided at LG that reusing for UPLOAD_FIRMWARE command FLUSH_CACHE comand should be shoot.
