I think it is a wonderful idea. I read that Google Earth had updated in June last year including some NZ areas. It seems from some of the comments on site that some of the Wellington images in the update were older than the ones they replaced. For Hamilton, almost *anything* would be better than what's up there at the moment.
If you look here: http://www.linz.govt.nz/core/topography/aerialandorthophotos/orthophotoindex... You'll see the lastest held by Linz are from 2002. My understanding was that these aerial photos were the primary source, in which case I have serious doubts that the Council would have that much influence. I have no Idea of current costs of doing these photo-runs but 40-odd years ago a 10-mile string from 25,000ft was in the order of $15,000 per frame. I image that inflation has promoted chicken-feed to elephant-feed :-) John
