Local
community disposing of their e-waste; we are expecting up to 800 cars
and
households to drop-off e-waste.
eDay was
created by the Computer Access New
Zealand Trust (CANZ) in response to a growing concern about the volume
of
electronic waste (e-waste), especially computers and computer monitors,
being
dumped in New Zealand landfills.
e-waste can seriously
harm the environment, wildlife and human health when dumped in
landfills.
Landfilling e-waste is not a solution because it stores potentially
toxic waste
rather than allowing for recovery and reuse of valuable materials.
eDay aims
to increase community
awareness of the hazardous nature of electronic equipment, making it
clear that
disposal in landfills is not a sustainable option. It also provides a
mechanism
and convenient drop-off points for households and community
organisations to
dispose of computer equipment and mobile phones in an environmentally
sustainable manner.
I hope you can join
us on 5th of October.
