No, I type in my user name etc all in lower case. Everything works fine from ssh.. sorry, I for got the "'t" in can. Should have read "can't"
I wondered if there were different console settings for actual tty's verses ssh consoles and thats why I can't see the issue.
I was meaning on the console. Try logging in with shift held down on the console and you'll see that everything is in upper case.
