You may have seen an item in the news lately about a report into the large amount of subsidies that the Government puts into the local film industry.
Following on from that, the new Labour government has tried to rein in the film subsidies, only to face the potential threat of legal action <https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12133319>. It appears the previous government made an open-ended commitment to the producers of the “Avatar” series. It seems to me, though, that any reasonable judge would see that an uncapped liability is simply unsustainable and impractiable, and propose a settlement with some suitable limit.
