Thanks Craig, that did the trick. One thing was a bit odd though, it didn't get everything the first time I ran it and I had to run it about 10 times, each time it got a bit more of the repository. I'm pleased to report that for the first time ever (in about 8 eight years of Linux usage) the upgrade went completely without a hitch.
