-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Michael, Thanks! I need to ultimately learn how to set up a secure web server. Right now, though, the main issue I need to get through is to get this machine working. I have tried various distros and various network cards, but none of them work... Some distros detect the card the but there is no network communication. I am sure that while we work on this problem there will be a multitude of other things we can discuss and I can learn as we go along. I have tried 4 different NICs and have had no success. I tried on a production server I have here and I get it working fine, so I don't think it is a configuration problem, it is probably a hardware thing. I have tried various BIOS setting as researched from the internet with no luck as well. The machine does work under windows. The machine is an oldish ABIT-VP6 dual processor MB with 2 433/66 processors 512Mb memory. The network cards are various, one from DSE (new), one Macronix, one 3Com and I am not sure about the other. The distros I have tried are Gentoo, trustix and Engarde... Trustix and Engarde see the card(s) but don't communicate, although the lights do flash in an unusual way. Gentoo fails to detect any of the cards. Cheers, Sidd. Michael J Knox wrote:
