My two cents on Ubuntu Mate 18.04.00 is that 2GB's of RAM is insufficient to run it in, and before long you'll be hung while you wait for swapping to finish. However this may because its release coincides with Firefox / Chrome / Youtube, etc. tending to hog
more memory.
Also in upgrading Ubuntu Mate, then the default for the system panel may change from having "Applications, Places and System" to "Menu".
To go back to the "Applications, Places and System". Goto: Control Panel --> Mate Tweak --> Panels. Change in the drop down menu from "Familiar" to "Traditional".
