Alien is fairly simple to install too, so if you have a linux box, then it should be much of a task.

From the man page for alien on my Kubuntu machine
rpm For converting to and from rpm format the Red Hat Package Manager must be installed. Im presuming DSL must not have the Red Hat Package Manager installed?
