For live editing I recommend checking out DVswitch. We used it at lca2015 for filming the speakers. Able to switch between camera and monitor capture with number shortcuts. Other features include pic-in-pic.

I've been using OpenShot in the past and have been quite happy with
it. The first time I used it, it took me 5min to load a video, overlay
it with music and generate the final video - without reading any
manual. Found the GUI very intuitive for a novice.
