
Hello Glenn, What you've experienced is exactly what I was warning you against in an earlier post. Though perhaps I didn't say it explicity enough, others did offer to lend you a 56kbs *external* modem. We've all been down this route before and we know internal modems that rely on Window software are difficult to get going and a pain the butt come update time. If you want a trouble free internet connection: Don't use an internal PCI or USB modem Use an external 56kps modem or a router with ethernet ports. I don't think linux has the advantage when It comes to complete novices like me. I think Windows, with all its faults, still is easier to set up and run out of the box than Linux. I think it has a way to go before it is serious competition with windows for anyone other than advanced computer users. The learning curve is very steep. Its such a shame because Linux seems so attractive.
