DSE actually sell an open cd so tis would be on site - its somewhere in the 4-7 dollar mark with lots of OSS for win users. They also have a knoppix and morphix CD same sort of cost, so DSE will not need or possibly want us to give stuff away, but more to explain the advantages, and quality of the tools. I would also point out that DSE and Cris Day in particular has done a lot to get OSS and Linux drivers in store, so we should support them in this even if only to say thanks for all the linux friendly work they have done to date. I can bring my laptop purchased from DSE running Linux with wireless access from a DSE wireless card to my DSE router/wireless as a example. Not an installfest, but examples of real world open source in use would be cool. needless o say I'm in Available all day Saturday, right through to close if required Oliver Jones wrote:
May I suggest that you guys supply people with OpenCD (http://theopencd.sunsite.dk/) cd's in addition to Linux (Knoppix?) CD's. Sometimes the Linux pond is just a little too deep for people but they won't say no to free software that runs on their Windows boxes.

I do not believe we are at a point where we have the room or experience to pull off a full on public install fest. But I do believe it's an opportunity to discuss with consumers what Open Source is all about, perhaps enlist new members and provide consumers with free Open Source CD's to take home and try out (we will be supplying these).
I still have some internal finalising to do but I would like to see a range of computers running Open Source software and am looking to list members to help demonstrate the software running on these and hand out the CD's (and LUG/NZOSS pamphlets?) - this in-store demonstration area has yet to be finalized along with any additional needs we identify.
