Yes and no (really as yes!). The MIDI keyboard is just that ... a controller with no sound generation capability, outputting midi note sequences. The PC that I have used it with is an old Windows ME system running proprietary music software ... nothing open source. It is not convenient to bring that computer along.
I guess the MIDI-PC connection is via a gameport? (that's a two-row D-15, IIRC) anyone got a gameport-equipped Linux PC? there's plenty of ways of generating sound from a PC given MIDI input, so no worries on that score; plug a MIDI kbd in, plug some speakers in, and start up MuseScore or whatever. (JACK's black magic to me personally, but there'd hopefully be time for productive fiddling around on the day.) butting
