Other things that would not work were Kdenlive (video editing), and Blender (3D/compositing) — both threw up errors trying to open a suitable OpenGL context.
He has posted an update <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ke7d0iO_-0> on further developments with the Lichee Pi 4A board. The day after he published the previous video, one of the Sipeed developers pointed him to an update to Kdenlive and OpenGL support. He applied that, and he is now able to edit a video on a RISC-V board. Rendering is slow (some 18 minutes versus a couple of minutes for ARM and x86 alternatives), but at least it works now. This episode is also his 500th on the “Explaining Computers” channel, so he has a retrospective on what went before.
