I have used it successfully on several IBM and HP laptops with no problems. Did you check the md5sum of the CD image after you downloaded it to ensure that it wasn't damaged in the download?
Perhaps some more caution before bandying advice about third party disk tools? I was expecting at least a hardware question or two but your misplaced confidence spurred me on.
