You may have already swept by this, but just in case: 1. http://linuxprinting.org was very helpful to me when I got my printer going; and 2. there's an O'Reilly book by Carla Schroder called "Linux Cookbook". There was up on the Web, when I was setting up my printer, a sample chapter. It was about printing and, again, it was very helpful to me.
