Having got a network and Internet connection sharing set up (thanks Bruce), Xtra is now charging my family for "overlapping usage" via my Linux computer. (The Internet connection is on the family computer, with Windows XP professional.)
Initially, web browsing at the same time as other family members was slow; now it seems to be normal dialup speed.
Any advice? I'd far rather access slowly than expensively :)
As a side issue, this is something worth thinking about.... If you're on the net for quite a bit of the time and because of it, you need a second phone line (which seems to be a very common delema), then staying with dialup access is IMO opinion is false economy. By the time you have got a second phone line for $ 29.95 (check out http://www.telecom.co.nz/content/0,3900,100007-1007,00.html) and then pay anything from $ 15.00 per month (with direct tolls access) to around $ 25.00 per month, you are looking at a reasonable aDSL connection. Just my thoughts.
