I am currently running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS - "2.6.15-28-686".
This works perfectly with my CD/DVD-ROM drive e.g. I can play CD's/DVD's and burn CD's/DVD's etc. not a problem.
I want to update my machine from 6.06 to a CD I have here which is called "Ubuntu 7.04 Alternate CD" - this label may be incorrect, but when booting from it, 'uname -r' gives "2.6.20-15-generic" kernel version.
For whatever reason, probably related to errors in prior e-mails, the install could not progress any further.
First; this is a two-step process. You need to upgrade to Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) and then you can upgrade from there to 7.04 (Feisty). Second; To upgrade you don't need to boot from the CD (although it may be another option, I'm not sure). Just put the 'alternate' CD in the drive while logged in and you should see a window pop up offering to upgrade the system. Third; there may actually be some issue with your hardware, but we'll figure that out on the day. Bring your computer along, I'll make sure I have the 6.10 images with me on Saturday and we'll get it all sorted out for you!
