Is it just me or have we fallen off Googles radar? Er, yes. My bad. Sorry. Nothing to do with IPv6, or anything. Fixed now.
curious, what was the problem?
It's in the original email. I was a li'l too embarrased to make it obvious :)
how did you fix it?
I fixed the bug in the wiki.
and how do you know it is fixed? (any change will take a while until it shows up at google)
Yeah, I suspect it might be a month before google gets around to reindexing the site and noticing the changes. DOH.
did you block google from accessing the website?
er, yeah. Google occasionally sends people to crazy places inside the wiki. For instance, it really likes to send people to "Recent Changes" because it mentions lots of words to do with a topic, and has lots of links. Except by the time the user gets sent to that page, it's changed and it no longer links to the interesting page that they were looking for. Google also sends people to pages that are content free. Specifically wiki pages that are heavily linked, have good titles etc, but don't have any content except for the standard "Please describe [foo] here." page. Google also liked sending people to older revisions of pages (for no real apparent reason). So I made all these things "follow, noindex" -- ie: "Follow all the links on this page, but don't add this page itself to your index". You can verify this by looking at the page source of any of the wiki pages, they have various "follow" and "index" status depending on the type of page. However, due to a minor typo, all the pages last time google did an index were flagged "noindex". Ooops. I can't remember when I made this change, I suspect I made it many months ago, just google has got around to catching up. It took me two or three hours this morning to figure out what was going on. Oh well.
