Not clearly understanding what you're doing here...
Are you booting from the 7.04 CD (not 7.10 I presume - your title of email is wrong)?
The dmesg and lpci output - is that from 7.04 or your old output? You're saying I think from 7.04 - did you drop to a command line to get it?
If so can you tell us the output from: mount
and also: cat /etc/fstab
If you don't get it sorted then you can always take to the next Saturday workshop.

OK. Sorry for the confusion - I suppose I should have said this from the start: I am currently running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS - "2.6.15-28-686". This works perfectly with my CD/DVD-ROM drive e.g. I can play CD's/DVD's and burn CD's/DVD's etc. not a problem. I want to update my machine from 6.06 to a CD I have here which is called "Ubuntu 7.04 Alternate CD" - this label may be incorrect, but when booting from it, 'uname -r' gives "2.6.20-15-generic" kernel version. For whatever reason, probably related to errors in prior e-mails, the install could not progress any further. Cheers, Elroy.
