Martin Eve, who works at Crossref, which manages the DOI system which tries to offer permanent online links to scientific publications and other digital documents, decided to do a survey of those links, to see how many of them would still actually resolve. If/when a publisher goes bankrupt, what happens to their online archives? Do researchers who submit papers keep backup copies of their papers?
