As Bruce has unfortunately precipitated this discussion away from wlug-committee and onto the main mailing list, I may as well clarify this issue for anyone who is interested. We have talked in the past about having an installfest (and a combined hands-on help session, for those with linux installed but with minor issues). There will be 'net acceess, and so on, so we should have a fair shot at getting linux installed on your machine and up to date, and any issues resolved. We initially thought April would be a good time, but we basically have run out of time to organise it. Well, as Bruce points out below, if we just do it, we will organise it in time, *however* at this stage we have no idea of who is actually interested. We don't particularly want to put effort into organising something in a rush now, which could work a lot a better if we delay it temporarily.
The date is more than two weeks away. I'm happy to phone around tomorrow, Friday, etc. I'm also happy to design a poster (although it'll suck; I'm no artist). Two weeks is plenty of time to make it happen.
Are we doing this or not?
Bruce: Yes, we are doing this. However we don't want to do it half-assed. Nor do we want to exclude any particular group who may want help. We can get it organised in this time frame, but given the Easter break and the two week student break, and the fact that any advertising we try to do now will only come out *next* week at the earliest, and with Easter being right now possibly even the week after, is there any point in rushing it? Everyone else: Think about the below questions, and we'll provide a web page or something for registrations of interest shortly. Do you need help installing linux? Want to give it a try, but not comfortable with the technical side of it? Do you have linux installed, but have problems with some bits of hardware not working? EG, digital camera, usb key stick, cdwriter, dvd drive, so on. Do you know other people in this situation who might want to come along? We'll probably advocate installing Fedora Core 1, as its a recent distribution and looks fairly easy to use. If you've already got linux installed, we'll try and help you fix your chosen distribution, or we can help you upgrade to FC1 if you prefer. Fedora Core 2 comes out in mid-may, so we might use this as an install candidate instead. Thanks for your time Daniel (with his WLUG President hat on)
