Just a note that Google Groups is gone, but USENET itself still remains. It was always a much less restrained/civil place (beware of political discussions springing up in unexpected places like weeds), and the traffic isn’t what it once was, but there are places where you can sign up for free, if you can figure out how to set up a client for retrieving and sending postings.
