Sadly ubuntu out of the box has a shortage of good codecs and support for such. Do a google to find more info. While I have found mplayer to satisfy all my needs, others will probably recomend alternative solutions especially for dvd playback On 04/01/07, elroy <elroy(a)ihug.co.nz> wrote:
Well, not really.
I struggled to get Win2K running stably on this system for a month or so (IBM Netfinity 5100 - I still don't know if it is supported :P ), but I NEED to be able to access USB devices.
Win2K ran semi-OK, until ANY USB device came near it. Then BSOD after BSOD.
My camera wouldn't work, my scanner wouldn't work, my USB stick wouldn't work...
Had several old machines with data I needed to get onto this one, so one day I got frustrated and popped in (to old machines) an old Ubuntu CD I had (Warty?). Plugged in USB stick, and there were my files/pictures.
Gave it a go on the IBM, seemed to run alright. Decided to install it on the IBM, seemed to run alright.
Still working on the following though:
DVD playback - MPlayer? Multiple AVI/DivX/Etc - MPlayer? ... ...
Will post more later - stuff to do :-)
