Ok, the ifconfig command isnt showing an ethernet port interface, try bringing it up manually by using sudo ifconfig eth0 up. Post any errors and/or the new ouput of ifconfig -a
ifconfig -a shows all existing interfaces, even if they're not up.
Ron: can you send the output of "sudo lspci" please? this will list all devices on your system, and will help with diagnosing the problem with your network.
Have you rebooted since running the updates?
