Just noticed this linked from nz.comp: http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20050613130705170 "NZ asks questions about DRM". This is particularly relevant as DRM was raised at Monday's meeting as an issue that we would like NZ's government to be aware of.

What does dmesg tell you? Has the kernel even loaded a module for the wireless card? You will probably need ndiswrapper and the *.inf *.sys files from the windows driver to make it work. When you say you cannot make connection can you give a few more details: - what wireless network card does this machine have? (You may need to look at manual to find out easily) - are you trying to use no security, WEP or WPA? (i.e. what are you trying to connect to) - does it work in Windows if you still have that on the machine? - can you give any error messages? Squid

Hi everyone I'm looking for opinions on Squid. If anyone runs it, or has run it, can they offer their views on it, and comment on any possible pitfalls? I'm wanting to install it on Hoary to act as a caching web proxy on a firewall box. I notice that Squid doesn't appear to be in the Universe or Multiverse repos for Hoary (unless I'm using aptitude completely wrong). I have no problems compiling from source; I'm lazy and like to install from binary where possible. Does anyone know of third party repos with Squid in them? Any decent third party repos would be handy actually. Failing that, does anyone know why Squid is not included in the Hoary repos? It seems fairly popular and I would have expected to see it there. The Waikato branch of the New Zealand Computer society have asked me to extend an invitation to WLUG members to attend a dinner and seminar on 30 June 2005, from 6pm to 10pm. The meeting is being held at the Okoroire Hotel (near Tirau), and consists of a gourmet three course dinner ($35.00 per head), and two speakers commencing at approximately 7:30pm. The speakers are Dave Nichols, a lecturer from the University of Waikato, speaking on "Usability and Open Source Software", and Graham Lauder, marketing contact for OpenOffice.org in New Zealand, speaking on "Disrupting the Market Leader".
