Hi. I'm looking for someone(s) to do Linux support work for RimuHosting: setup people's Linux servers, install Linux apps, troubleshoot problems and the like. It can be very interesting, challenging work. For those that don't know, RimuHosting is based in Cambridge and we provide Linux VPS hosting services to a global customer base. Waiting until the day before you leave the country is not a good way to make a buying decision but that is what happened in my case _I did_ go to dse and try an install but dopey me took the wrong architecture so the thing failed. My purchase was a Acer aspire 5000 amd64 1.6mhz turion 448 mg of reported ram Installed is Ubuntu and thanks to a lot of support from a Wlug member I have a useful system. I need to hunt around for some vga drivers and some other programmes. So far I have run the machine for extended periods with a heat problem. It remains to be seen how it will respond to bounceing around in a truck for 100,000 miles or so Thank you for all your advise and help. Be warned that some of you may have to wait a little longer, however: the kernel shipped with FC5 effectively disallows the loading of any non-GPL modules. That behavior was a mistake, and a fix has already been made, but it is too late to get that fix into the initial FC5 release. You could try PBTech too, they list that model on their website. http://www.pbtechnz.com/?item=HDDWD1039 They say to call for stock but in practise I find they often have stock when they say that. Matt Browne

Hi Folks Am on the scrounge here We've had to send a drive off for data recovery. However it's a relatively recent model and the data recovery company has no parts for it, they need the heads. Therefore we are looking for a 'doner' drive that matches the following: Western Digital Caviar SATA 80GB Model: WD800JD - 60LSA0 (Last 6 Digits MUST be exact) Date of Manufacture: 16 OCT 2005 (give or take 1 month) We're willing to pay for a replacement. Does anyone have one of these lying around spare? Ran across this today regarding possible password leaks. http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=143334 You might want to review any existing Ubuntu servers pronto. While I didn't see these same values on my Debian Sarge server, that's only one data point. Now I'm off to check my Alpha server.
