Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 ==> Feisty? 7.10 - CD-ROM Drive not recognised

Hi all. I have an Asus P5WDG2-WS-Pro, and am having trouble trying to install a version of Ubuntu I got from the last WLUG install meet - (This is the Feisty 7.04 Alternative CD I believe - will need to double-check this). Basically it boots from CD fine, but fails to recognise the CD-ROM drive - is it not recognising the IDE controller? I will try to sort out a dmesg from when I boot the 7.04 CD. The strange thing is that Dapper 6.06 Live CD boots from same CD-ROM, and happily installs from the same CD-ROM - any recommendations on things to try? Poster Logos...

Last year I presented a poster concept for SFD. http://www.tcn.bowenvale.co.nz/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,19/ This year I want to produce a set of posters for the LES [1] kids and to put on the walls at the CIA [2]. I would like help to find printable logos. The posters are going to be SR-A3 (bit bigger than A3 - A3 is twice the size of A4 (normal paper)) Images need to be at least 2000px * 2000px but larger is also ok. I think it is a wonderful idea. I read that Google Earth had updated in June last year including some NZ areas. It seems from some of the comments on site that some of the Wellington images in the update were older than the ones they replaced. How frustrating would it be to submit some neat clear recent shots only to have them "superseded" by some cloudy old photos that Google earth already had licenses for? I think if you google for Google Earth updates and read the ensuing comments that they seem not to update very often and when they do the results are variable and sometimes disappointing. Proposal: WLUG and Google Earth

Hi, For years now, I've been using Google Earth on and off. More and more of New Zealand is now there in good detail, but to this day Hamilton and most other Waikato towns remain a sad archaic green and white blur. I wrote to the Hamilton City Council IT department over a year ago, encouraging them to scan/submit aerial photos, but all I got was a 'we might look into it one of these days' type of response. This gave me the thought that there might be an opportunity for WLUG to boost its profile. What it would require is a small group of volunteers to learn about the Google Earth submission protocols, to source out the best available aerial photos, scan them and submit them into Google Earth. Perhaps some professional digital graphics companies/people might be willing to donate some time and effort in exchange for a share of the publicity. Some of those folks would have pro scanning gear way way beyond the average humble A4 flatbed. I'm sure that the Waikato Times and/or Hamilton Press would be very interested in covering the project, and it could be a good opportunity for WLUG to extol the virtues of F/OSS here in the Waikato. Would be a great look for WLUG, Linux etc if the scanned photos were post-processed with some 1337 GIMP plugins. Thoughts? Cheers David

Marathon-Photos.com photographs marathons and endurance events around the world, with the images displayed on the internet for viewing and ordering. Launched in Hamilton in 1999, the business has grown exponentially in the past 18 months. This year we will photograph more than 1 million people in more than 300 events in 30 countries.We also offer a video service to many events. From these, runners are able to either download personal video footage or order a fully interactive DVD. We need a person to help us maintain and develop the website for serving our millions of photos and video clips; someone to work closely with our software developers and graphics designers.
