Any one advise on SOx handsets

Hi I have been give a bunch of Tennyson SOX model 370 handsets to figure out how they work..... lol ... Does anyone have a manual for them or any technical info ? Perhaps we can arrange a computer or two to demonstrate (or even tutor) how general public can make use of FLOSS in their daily life/work? For instance, use the GIMP or Inkscape to draw some pictures/icons and edit their photographs (somewhat like street performance so as to attract people to come over SFD). Saturday 4th September SaturdayWorkshop at Te Whanau Pūtahi, the community church at the end of Oxford Street. We'll have the usual tables, power, various ISO's, Internet, coffee, light lunch, etc. If there's something you specifically want to work on please mention it on the mailing list in advance so we can study up beforehand or bring any necessary equipment. Also we're paying a little extra for hall and internet now, so a gold coin donation to help cover these costs would be greatly appreciated.

Software Freedom Day progress

We need to update the information on softwarefreedomday.org and softwarefreedomday.org.nz We've still got a bit of organising to do regarding tables, displays, things to hand out. kiaora dvd is mostly done using the same system-browser autorun as the 2006 cd. I'd still like to clean up the html templates a lot and use the k-meleon cd browser kit, but if we had to it's nearly good enough to hand out as-is. Just a few zips still need to be converted to exe installers and a bit of general tidy-up. 1.7GB of software, plenty of room to add more. Here's the program list. KPPP and modems

http://linuxmint.com/ A little while ago, there was a bit of lament about the lack of dial up modem support for modern distros. I downloaded the latest iso for Linux Mint KDE edition a week or so and was suprised to find that it has KPPP installed by default. Just wondering if linuxmint might be a better option for those without ADSL access. To be fair, I didn't actually try the modem since I was just running the live CD of a USB stick. Cheers, Chris

OpenSUSE 11.3 DVDs

All Woohoo, The 200 openSUSE 11.3 DVDs I ordered in anticipation of SFD arrived yesterday. I'll be at the meeting on Mon night if anyone wants one. They're very cool, Dual sided, 64 bit one side and 32 bit the other. Two live environments, KDE and Gnome so people can check out each DE. wiki down

As you might have noticed the wiki has been down. The switch failed that we have at Orcon. No one really wants to manage the equipment at Orcon anymore anyway, and we have a VPS donated by Rimuhosting where some backups are stored. If anyone wants to work on restoring these backups just send me an email off list and I can get you the access you need. I'm on holiday right now, and don't have time to look at it. I installed the Postgres database server on the VPS but it's a newer version than what the wiki was using before, so there may be some issues with that. I'll be back in another week, and can look at it more then if needed. Best, John
