crossover weirdness in suse ?

Trying to help Ditar here with installing crossover, it seems to be trying to use a font that opensuse doesn't have installed? screenshot attached Any suggestions? -- This email is for the intended recipient only. Help wanted - music video clip or animation

I made a silly parody song about geeks/computers/etc . Im so-so at singing, slightly worse at editing that with music. I made a parody song however which some people have said is funny and i should have some sort of 'video clip' to go with it on youtube. I dont suppose anyone here is into video editing at all and are bored enough to make something cool up? Liz Q

This Question remained unanswered at our meeting. Google gave this result however I do not have that line in my "about:config" so I am unsure if it works or not: This does not clear my browsing history in Firefox 3.0??? I tried to get my Asus laptop (Vista) to talk to my Acer (Linux Ubuntu 8.04) but no joy. I can ping 192.168.0.1, which is the Asus's network address, but cant see a network connection in the places>network folder. I've tried both DHCP and Roaming. I had a look on the back of my Acer, and it hasnt got a serial port, nor a parallel port. My arm is getting sore from all this dead horse flogging. Glenn.

Hey all Thanks for all the good advise. You are all right, I am flogging a dead horse trying to get this internal PCI Modem working in my machine with 64Bit architecture. Could i instead of trying to get Ubuntu to talk with my pci modem, try and establish an internet connection through my Windows Vista Laptop via. my ethernet card and a 100Mb switch? The switch shows there is a connection between the two machines, as yet I have not configured a network as I don't know how. By and by, does anyone want my PCI modem? It works fine with Vista, and I'll give it away, heck, Ill even post it to you for free just to get rid of the thing.... Glenn.

I ls'd the /usr/share/doc directory and I couldn't find any listing for sl-modem. Am I right to assume that this is not installed, and if so, how can I install the package from my install cd? Hi All I got it wrong, just did some reading at Wikipedia and I have got a PCI modem and not a serial modem..apologies. I have a SpeedCom HP156M3 Internal PCI 2 Wire ISDN Modem. I did a google search but couldnt find any drivers for Linux. Does anyone know where I might find some, or is the modem just a winmodem and thats all? Glenn Morrissey.

hey all thanks for all the great information. I had a serial modem that came installed in the machine when I bought it a couple of months ago. Its a brand new computer and I couldnt get scanmodem to detect it, thats why I tried to install a USB modem instead. I can supply output of the scanmodem program if required. Thanks all Glenn.

Hi there all Is anyone here able to help me configure a Lucent external usb modem? I know that Heron detects that there is a device, because when I run lsusb: lsusb Bus 001 Device 011: ID 047e:2892 Agere Systems, Inc (Lucent) and I have tried to run modprobe: sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x47e product=0x2892 but nothing appears to be happening??? I dont have a device manager installed, like I do on my Ubuntu 7.04 release, although I have downloaded the gnome device manager (gnome-device-manager-0.1) I wouldnt have a clue on how to install the package, remembering that I dont have internet access on this machine makes it a real pain, because there are drivers that I need for the display that I dont have. My querry on this matter is on the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5987714#post5987714 Please bear in mind that I am a complete novice with Linux and Ubuntu, but really REALLY want to get a working knowledge of it. Experienced this system on multiple different Singapore Airline flights recently. Generally fairly good but multiple machines needing rebooting - seemed to be the proprietary system locking up rather than Linux as you could see the Linux kernel booting just fine! Systems were very slow on older planes 747/777 but faster on A380 but still some parts had badly written software as some parts were fast and some parts were slow (30 second wait after pressing a key). A380 has full OpenOffice installed and a USB socket so you can work on documents on your USB key. Agenda Discussion of Software Freedom Day Success: *A manageable turnout *USB stick draw worked well. *Music applications/ setups are popular. *Presentations format worked well. *The posters and advertising had created manageable expectations. *A public figure is a draw card (Nandoor Tanzcos) *Experienced presenters held audience attention. *The fliers and promotional materials were excellent. *News paper recognition. *EEE PC is popular. Things we learned *A resources page/board for those interested in future information. *The value of having someone welcoming people to the event. *The value of having the internet available. *Perhaps a notice board/ white board for any rescheduling issues. *Perhaps some configuration work could have been done earlier *Wireless AND wired access is useful to those wishing to hook up laptops. Number one trouble shooting with laptops is wireless issues so wired access is a prerequisite for troubleshooting some issues. *Have a session demonstrating the OpenDisc (on a windows computer), highlighting the programs on it. Thing we could do better or ideas for discussion *Maybe a local ubuntu respository for any install work to avoid hammering the internet connection. (might also save embarrassment when doing how to install) *Windows machines demonstrating the true cross platform nature of many free software projects *Demonstrating MythTV showing maturity of application. Is anyone here from the central Hamilton West area? I /did/ have someone to take a small load (two monitors, a few PSUs and a few other small bits and pieces), but he won't be in Hamilton tomorrow. Just thought I'd drop a line to the list as a way of introducing myself and to acknowlege the effort the group obviously put into SFD last weekend. I'm a web developer type who's been working with open-source tech for many years now, some of the Uni folk on the list will know me, I saw a few familiar faces in S-block on Saturday. I was really impressed with what you'd put together. I took a couple of friends along who are also techies, none of us are hard-core Linux desktop users (yet) but two of us have been using *nix back-ends for some time now. Was great to be met on the door (sorry didnt catch the guy's name, my mate Matt used to work with him at Telecom), getting a warm reception at an event like that is so important, especially so I imagine for those who may not be as familiar with all the lingo etc and feeling a bit intimidated by all the Alpha-Geeks. Awesome to see the number of folk there who weren't afraid to be asking questions and finding out about stuff that they could see themselves personally using. Its easy to give people too much info, but from what I saw the speakers and folks at the demos in the reception area had the balance right, not too much, not too condescending. One thing that did strike me was the fact that a lot of the attendees were pretty much already FOSS converts, not too many total noobies, I guess it's tough raising awareness of an event and topic like this, but I wonder if maybe being on the edge of town (ie at the Uni) might not be too far away for some people, would it be better in a central location where casual bypassers could be tempted to pop in and find out whats goin on? All in all, it was very well done, I look FWD to popping along to the next one :-) Dean Stringer

The other thing I wanted to say (and I guess I should cc this to the list because not everyone is on the committee list; Big thanks to the Department of Computer Science at Waikato University who provided us with the venue, and also paid for the very large poster in the main library. Big thanks to the WAND group, and especially Jamie Curtis, who sorted out our network connection as well as a couple of switches and an access point at short notice. And a HUGE thanks to everyone who helped out on the day. I was really happy at how it all worked out. Photos and a write-up will be on the SFD wiki pretty soon.

Anyone intending to show, the tech demo for Yo Frankie (project apricot) released not quite a week ago, its a project being worked on by blender and crystal space. Its intended to be an open-source game to compete with commercial games. Im no "gamer" but im impressed by the effort and am now downloading said demo for a look.
