Try satlan. Hell im on the 128k plan and find it great. Bugger all outages and I can ring these guys almost any time of day. Weird SEGV with Apache.

Howdy. I'm getting a weird problem with Apache on a RHEL2.1 box I have. It does on the _second_ HUP or USR1 signal it receives. So ever two days logrotate kills it. It seems to be dying when PHP reloads for the second time. Anyone have any useful ideas on how to track this problem down more precisely? Daemon monitoring tools.

Hi guys. Way back in the ancient mists of time I remember seeing some daemon monitoring app. I can't remember what it was called though. It basically was a tool that ensured that particular daemons on a host were always running. Ie, if they crashed or whatever the monitoring app ran the appropriate rc script to restart them. Anyone know what I'm talking about or a good app that does this? Hi gund, I must say I agree with oliver on this topic... The athlon cpu could well be the way to go. Most of the processors (to coin a phrase) "honk along" at VERY nice speeds. The physics dept at the waikato uni uses almost exclusively a64s. Hoever the 32 bit cpus are just as good and I believe they are going to be dual coreing them in the near future. There are some VERY nice mobos out for these boards... www.tomshardware.com is a good place to go for reviews of chips, boards and gfx cards... They not only test on win systems but a linux build as well so you get an idea of how much trouble they went to to get things working. I am only familiar with VMWare. But open to new ideas. So this is what I do: A customer wants wot make xyz work with abc in his specific environment. So I build the system in a VMWare session and prove it works before going out to the site and implimenting the change, a nice way to do things on a limited budget. Also, I have pre-built machines in a virtual lab that I use to test new software for campatibility reasons etc. If there is another way to do that, then that would be great. Not sure how well nVidia works with 64bit Linux though. From what I know (which is little) they have a very fast FSB etc. If you only want to go 32bit then 800Mhz FSB P4's are quite nice. Hi I am thinking about getting a new workstation for study/development. It will be a beast. Apart form the favourable reviews of NVidia graphics cards here, are there any preferences to motherboards? IDE RAID controllers? I have been living in laptop land for a while now and have lost contact with desktop options and hardware.
