Date: Monday 31 October Time: 7:30pmhttp://www.wlug.org.nz/1 Location: http://www.wlug.org.nz/LitB at WaikatoUniversity In his presentation, Ian will cover: * wiki-ing * !SourceForge * source code management systems * writing documentation * use of mailing lists (including warnings about flames etc) * submitting code It is aimed at all levels - everyone, even if they can't code, can contribute by testing, documenting etc. Ian has returned to PhD studies at WaikatoUniversity after 15 years in the IT workforce. His research is on congestion control in networking and has contributed to many open source projects, notably including the http://www.wlug.org.nz/DCCP protocol for Linux, which is currently being merged into the main Linux kernel. ---- MeetingTopics http://www.wlug.org.nz/1 As previously discussed at the AGM, all meetings from now on will be held at 7:30pm, as the reasons for holding them earlier in winter no longer apply.

USB Headset

Hi all. A week or more ago I posted about my interest in purchasing a Plantronics USB headset and whether it might work under Linux. Thank you to those who responded to that post. On Friday, after receiving my copy of World of Warcraft, I decided I needed to replace the dodgy analogue Plantronics headset I have with a USB one. It seems the only computer store near my place in Melbourne's CBD that stocked headsets was Harvey Norman and they only stocked Logitech devices. I bought a Logitech® Premium USB Headset 350 <http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/AU/EN,CRID=103,CONTENTID…> and hoped for the best. As expected it works well on Windows for WoW. :) Tonight I decided to test it with Linux and I'm happy to report that getting it to work with Fedora Core 4 was a simple case of plugging it in. Hot plug and udev did their jobs and I could instantly twiddle with the mixer settings in Gnome Mixer and Audacity grabbed audio from /dev/dsp2 without a hitch. I'm well pleased. Regards

Access to www.wlug.org.nz

For around a month now i have not been able to access www.wlug.org.nz from out netblocks 202.49.148.0/24 and 202.49.149.0/24 has anything changed at the WLUG end that could be causing this? The DNS resolves to 210.55.18.250 Regards, Andy

Hi there, I was browsing your LUG's wiki and I came across a page noting that several of you are members of Orkut. I've been following the development of many of Google's recent 'Beta' services with great interest, but I haven't had an opportunity to try Orkut yet. Hi all, As you may or may not know, Ubuntu 5.10 was released last week and I have been trying to download it - unsuccessfully! Yip, I'm still on dialup :-(( Are there any good samaratons out there (in Hamilton) that could supply me with a copy of the i386 release iso (ubuntu-5.10-install-i386.iso)? Thanks, Ivan

(OT) Paid work for students or anyone

Dear list, I have two problems that I will pay to have fixed 1. I have a IR device that works with Windows to upload data. Using Linc record or IrDa-utils I need to capture the data similar to a package sniffer and make it readable in Linux. http://www.lirc.org/ irda.sourceforge.net/ 2. Openemr is a medical patients system and billing system. I would like to hear from anyone to build a Debian package using Sarge.
