It may not be exactly the correct setup for you, but it might give you some
ideas of what to do... but find the the latest drivers before you start...

Hi,
Well the server I'm talking about is in South Africa. Needless to say that
bandwith is as expensive (or more) as gold down there. The mail server
belongs to an ISP I used to work for. It serves more than 40 000 customers
on a 5mb pipe(local)! The international pipe is even smaller!
Get the picture? ;)
ciao

using fetchmail would defeat the point of using an imap-server.
if i read you correctly,
your pop accounts are from your provider.
thus in order to replace pop, your provider would have to give
you imap access instead,
which then you would access with an imap client.
however i assume you want all the mail copied to your local machine,
and work on it offline.
for this imap does not help.
and you certainly do not need an imap-server on your local machine.
greetings, martin.
