ok,
suppose to clean the log I simply add with crontab -e the line
00 02 * * * mv /var/log/mylogname /var/log/mylogbakup
will this do the job of giving me a clean mylogname (the program creates
it if its missing just fine) as when I type this at console I am asked
if I wish to overwrite the file, will i need to add a "do it no matter
what" type of parameter to the mv or will it work without it?

Only posted there, as the mailer gave me an error when I sent this, and
I wasn't sure it went out to the list, I still intend to figure this
cron thing out, as well as logrotate......... And another old 486 comes
back to life :-)
at least I know now that the posting worked, I guess i'll see if i still
get the error message this time too.

This can also be caused by having the wrong settings for CHS, or if there is
HD management software on the HD, seagate and connor drives had one that
could make the HD bigger than what could be read by some of the fdisk
programs..
